There are a few games that really can change lives. Some inspire us to take on great projects, others challenge us to examine the way we live. One game that changed my life is Toby Fox's Independently developed and critical success called Undertale. The premise of the game is rather simple: a small child falls into the underground, a place of monsters, and does their best to make their way back to the surface. The game has a very unique attribute, however, because there are multiple ways to get through the monsters that stand in their way: hack and slash violence, or gentle kindness. As you go through the game, you are repeatedly given the choice to fight and kill monsters, or to talk to them and become their friends. Some monsters are difficult, not every creature is immediatly ready to be best friends with a creature like you. but given enough time, every creature in the underground becomes your friend, and eventually you allowthem to come to the surface with you. Alternatively, you wipe the underground clean of all monsters, and find the strength in yourself to solve your own problems. There are a multitude of memorable characters that you meet on your adventure:
- Papyrus, the enthusiastic, kind hearted skeleton who aspires to lead the royal guard and loved spaghetti
- Sans, the deceptively powerful skeleton brother of papyrus, who is either your ally and good friend, or terrible enemy.
- Undyne, the legendary captain of the roya guard and super enthusiastic chef.
- Mettaton, the budding T.V. host who really knows how to put on a show, and how to keep you on your toes.
- Alphys, the delightful, if entirely awkward, anime loving scientist who works in the background to make sure your adventure succeeds
-  c;temmie :3
- Toriel, the Benevolent mother figure who endevours tirelessly to keep you safe throughout your trip in the underground.
Undertale is a lot to dive into, but it is well worth the experience. Undertale taught me that everyone deserves a chance, and can be redeemed. Even if sometimes that person doesn't deserve that redemtion.
